Have questions? We got you!

Whether you are well-versed in Greek life or new to it all, we look forward to answering your questions and sharing our community with you.

  • Who we are

    • The Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) is a governing body for culturally-based fraternities and sororities. MGC aims to promote unity, cultural awareness, and positive relations within the Greek community and the wider university. It serves as a coordinating body for its member organizations, facilitating recruitment, social events, and community service initiatives.

    • In 1998, a group of twelve culturally based fraternities and sororities came together to form the Multicultural Pan-Hellenic Alliance (MCPA). The council was formally established in 2023 and took on the Multicultural Greek Council name.

    • At Texas State University, our organizations within MGC represent Latino-based organizations, & Asian-Interest Fraternities and Sororities. Latino-based and Asian-Interest organizations are in no way exclusive for membership by race or ethnicity. However, they have a primary focus to represent and uplift those specific cultures and communities.

  • How to Join

    • Recruitment occurs at the beginning of both Fall and Spring Semesters. The Multicultural Greek Council will host events over the span of 2-3 Weeks. Those interested in MGC are encouraged to attend these events to learn about all the chapters in our Council.

    • Anyone who meets the organization's academic and enrollment requirements and aligns with their values can join an MGC Chapter. They are culturally based but inclusive - membership is open to students of all backgrounds.

    • The Multicultural Greek Council does not have a fee for Recruitment/Recruitment Events. Fees are to be discussed with your Chapter of Interest in terms of New Member Dues vs. Active members Dues & Fees, which will vary among each chapter.

  • MGC Terminology

    • An umbrella organization that governs and supports culturally-based fraternities and sororities, promoting unity, collaboration, and leadership among its member organizations.

    • The ceremonial process by which individuals officially become members of a fraternity or sorority after completing the organization’s intake process.

    • The official membership process through which individuals join a fraternity or sorority, including interviews, education, and initiation ceremonies. Unlike traditional "rush," intake is often more private and intentional.

    • A synchronized, rhythmic dance or walk performed by members of a Greek organization, typically done in a line formation to showcase unity, pride, and cultural expression.

    • A dynamic performance art involving precise footwork, claps, and chants, rooted in African and African American traditions, used to express pride and unity in Greek organizations.

    • A mentorship pairing within Greek organizations, where the “Big” is an older member who guides and supports their “Little,” a newer member.

    • A customized jacket worn by members of Greek organizations, typically bearing the organization’s letters, the member's line name, crossing season or year, and other significant symbols or information.

    • A public presentation or performance where new members of a Greek organization are formally introduced to the campus and broader community, often revealing their identities for the first time.

    • A group of individuals who go through the intake process together in a Greek organization. Often referred to by season and year (e.g., "Spring 2025 Line").

    • A local branch of a national fraternity or sorority, usually based at a specific college or university.

    • A unique sound or phrase used by members of a Greek organization to represent pride, identity, and a sense of connection. Each org has its own distinct call.

    • Clothing and items (like jackets, paddles, bags) that display the letters, colors, or symbols of a Greek organization.

    • The larger governing body for a Greek organization that oversees all of its chapters across regions or countries.

  • MGC on Campus

    • MGC works hard to collaborate across councils and promote the essence of Greek Unity. They partner with the National-Panhellenic Council in Hump Days/ Stroll Nights, which often host Drives ( Canned Food, Clothing, Baby, and or Feminine Products) that will be donated to local centers in the Community. As well, they support the Panhellenic & Interfraternity Council by showing up to Bid Day, and participating in philanthropy weeks, fundraising activities, and community-hosted events.

    • Every semester, we host our Showcase, where chapters will compete in Stroll/ skits to exhibit the culture and meaning of MGC.

    • Each semester, MGC will host “Meet MGC,” where prospective new members will meet each chapter within the council to begin determining the best fit for them.

    • Every semester, MGC hosts a market where local vendors come to campus and sell their products to help spread awareness for cultural/minority-owned businesses within the area.
