Frequently Asked Questions

  • Primary Fall Recruitment

    • Our primary recruitment dates are below:

      • Mandatory recruitment participant orientation August 27th
      • Recruitment: August 29th - September 1st
      • Bid Day: September 2nd
    • The Panhellenic primary recruitment is a mutual selection process. Participants (known as potential new members) attend open house rounds to meet all the chapters. At the end of that round, houses, and PNMs enter their preferences into our recruitment software system for who they would like to meet again in the following rounds. The system works to match all, maximize all the preferences, and connect as many women to houses as possible. This process continues over two more rounds until PNMs are left with one or two houses. On the final night, PNMs will make their final preference known and select the house they love best. On Bid Day, PNMs will find out which house offered them a bid and then run home to be with their new sisters!

    • Registration will open on April 1st, 2025.

    • Yes! We would love to have you! Our process is open to all grade levels. Women from all grade levels are able to be offered bids.

      • Philanthropy Day (Sunday)
        • Elevated Day
          • Lovely sun dresses, jumpsuits, top/skirt combos
          • Heels or dressy flats
          • This day is typically dressy. Make sure you feel good about what you pick! The most important thing is that you feel confident!
      • Preference Day (Monday
        • Semi Formal/ Cocktail
          • Cocktail Dresses or Formal Jumpsuits
          • This is the most formal day. Our sororities pull out all the stops for our PNMs, so we ask that PNMs to honor that effort and show up in their best semi-formal attire.
    • Letters of recommendation are not required.

Please note that Panhellenic does not accept letters of recommendation by mail.

All of the sororities have digital systems for alumni to recommend potential new members if they choose to do so.

    • We love this question! There is no such thing as a “typical sorority woman” to us. The women of the TXST Panhellenic community are bold, diverse, talented, and innovative, representing many different personality types. Our women are found all over campus, in various majors, working jobs around town, and serving their community in ways unique to them. Please do not let a misinformed narrative guide you that we expect you to fit a mold. We want you to be your most authentic self and bring what makes you unique to the community. All undergraduate women are welcome.

    • Yes! Bid day is such an emotional and wonderful day. We invite all friends and family to celebrate with their PNMs as they receive bids and run home to their new sisters. Please note that after bids are opened, the new members will leave on buses to their new sorority houses. Family and Friends are not permitted to join celebrations at the houses.

  • Spring Recruitment

    • The spring recruitment process at Texas State University hosts the  Continuous Opening Bidding process. Any chapters with open spaces can offer bids to potential new members.

Not all chapters will participate in Spring Recruitment. Panhellenic will host a “meet the chapters” event at the the start of the spring semester that interested women may attend.

Chapters individually will advertise COB events where potential new members may attend and establish relationships. The chapter will extend a bid if it is a mutual selection between the potential new member and the chapter. If the potential new member accepts the bid, she must go to the Fraternity and Sorority Life Office (LBJ Student Center 410) to sign the membership paperwork.

    • Houses that are eligible to accept new members will be posted on the Panhellenic website at the start of the semester.

Chapters will also announce event schedules on Instagram, so make sure you follow the sorority accounts for updates.

    • Yes. All potential new members must have a minimum 2.5 overall college GPA.

If you are a freshman without college credit enrolling in the spring semester , your high school GPA will be considered.

    • The COB interest form is what you will fill out to indicate you are interested in getting connected to a chapter.

Panhellenic maintains this form and shares the information with all eligible chapters.

    • We encourage you to explore all chapters thoroughly if you consider joining the Panhellenic community. You may surprise yourself in the process and come to love another sorority more than you anticipated.

There are pros and cons to both recruitment processes.

Spring recruitment is a more relaxed process. You know who is open for membership and who is not.

Fall recruitment is a fast-paced, mutual selection process. The house you are prioritizing might not match with you.

There is no right or wrong answer for when you go through the recruitment process, nor is one “better” than the other.

    • Congratulations! Please visit the LBJ Student Center, 4th floor, suite 410 ( The Fraternity and Sorority Office). You will sign new membership paperwork with office staff.

  • Sorority Terminology

    • PNM is short for “Potential New Member” and is used to refer to a woman interacting with sorority women through the recruitment process.

    • A recruitment counselor, or “rc” for short, is a sorority woman who sets her affiliation aside to guide PNMs through the formal recruitment process. They will be with PNMs for the formal recruitment process from the moment they register all the way to bid day.

Recruitment Counselors are not utilized during COB/ Spring Recruitment

    • Primary recruitment refers to the formal recruitment process hosted in the fall semester. All sororities on campus participate.

    • A bid is an offer of membership to a potential new member. Sororities will extend bids to women mutually interested in joining their organization.

    • Bid day is the best day! During bid day, PNMs will find out what sorority they have been invited to join.

  • Membership

  • Parent/ Family Questions

    • Panhellenic sororities on campus have a large amount of risk management oversight to ensure the highest levels of risk management are observed. Our panhellenic community is overseen nationally by the National Panhellenic Conference as well as the individual national headquarters for each member organization. At the local level, the University oversees and advises all Greek member organizations through the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. Member safety, wellness, and positive experiences are always top priorities.

    • All sororities will provide financial transparency documents both online and during recruitment. All sororities can offer payment plans for members. Membership costs will vary based on which organization your daughter may join.

    • Yes and no. Sororites on campus do not throw or host parties you would see in movies or TV. Our sororities host events, including sisterhoods, mixers, semi-formals, and formals. They are all required to follow strict risk management guidelines, with heavy oversight from advisors and the FSL office.

    • Sorority members will participate in weekly chapter meetings, attend monthly sisterhoods, mixers, and philanthropic events, attend semi-formals, and attend date parties, and maintain high levels of personal scholarship and wellness.

    • Yes, all sorority members have to maintain a minimum GPA, or they will be placed on academic probation. Sororites offer study hours and study nights and provide additional resources to ensure and encourage academic excellence from members.

    • No, there is a zero-tolerance hazing policy on campus, with the national organizations overseeing each member organization at the federal level. Hazing is now a federal crime.

    • Yes, all our sororities on campus offer a multitude of leadership opportunities. Each sorority is run by an executive board comprised of upperclassmen members. Under that board are 20-40 junior officer positions open to all members in good standing. There is a strong likelihood that women in sororities will hold at least one leadership position during their membership period.

    • Yes, all of our sororities encourage, and some require, participation in outside organizations. Our Panhellenic members are actively involved on campus. From the Student Body Vice President to athletics, the strutters, honor societies, living learning communities, Resident Hall Assistants, club sports, faith-based groups, interest groups, and more. Panhellenic women are found all over campus, actively engaging in what brings them joy, serves their community, and fuels their passions.

    • Yes, over 60% of our community members hold part-time jobs in the local and surrounding communities. Your daughter will be in the good company of women who balance their academic, personal, financial, and professional responsibilities.
